13 Have I any help in me,
when resource is driven from me?
4 For fyou say, ‘My gdoctrine is pure,
and I am clean in God’s1 eyes.’
5 But oh, that God would speak
and open his lips to you,
6 and that he would tell you the secrets of wisdom!
For he is manifold in hunderstanding.2
Know then that God iexacts of you less than your guilt deserves.
2 “No doubt you are the people,
and wisdom will die with you.
3 dBut I would speak to the Almighty,
and I desire to eargue my case with God.
13 “Let me have silence, and I will speak,
and let come on me what may.
15 pThough he slay me, I will qhope in him;1
yet I will rargue my ways to his face.
18 Behold, I have tprepared my case;
I know that I shall be in the right.
19 uWho is there who will contend with me?
For then I would be silent and die.
17 although there is no bviolence in my hands,
and my prayer is pure.
18 “O earth, ccover not my blood,
and let my dcry find no resting place.
2 “How long will you bhunt for words?
Consider, and then we will speak.
3 Why are we counted as ccattle?
Why are we stupid in your sight?
4 You who dtear yourself in your anger,
shall the earth be forsaken for you,
or ethe rock be removed out of its place?
27 “Behold, I know your thoughts
and your schemes to wrong me.
28 For you say, r‘Where is the house of the prince?
Where is sthe tent in which the wicked lived?’
29 Have you not asked those who travel the roads,
and do you not accept their testimony
2 a“Can a man be profitable to God?
Surely he who is wise is profitable to himself.
3 Is it any pleasure to the Almighty if you are in the right,
or is it gain to him if you bmake your ways blameless?
Elihu Rebukes Job’s Three Friends
1 So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was vrighteous in his own eyes.
2 Then Elihu the son of Barachel wthe Buzite, of the family of Ram, burned with anger. He burned with anger at Job because he justified himself xrather than God.
8 “Surely you have spoken in my ears,
and I have heard the sound of your words.
9 You say, ‘I am rpure, without stransgression;
I am clean, and there is no iniquity in me.
2 “Do you think this to be just?
Do you say, v‘It is my right before God,’
7 aIf you are righteous, what do you give to him?
Or what does he receive from your hand?
8 Your wickedness concerns a man like yourself,
and your righteousness ba son of man.
