Getting Started

Thank you for signing up and welcome to the ESV Bible online! In order to help you get the most out of this powerful tool we wanted to provide a quick tutorial on the main features of the site. Here are a few new features you'll want to get familiar with.

Bible Navigation

There are two main ways to navigate to your desired passage in the Bible.

1. By clicking on the Book icon at the top left of your screen, you will be presented with a list of all the books of the Bible. Then clicking on the desired book will provide a list of chapters to choose from.

2. Using the search bar at the top right of your screen, you can enter in a verse reference, muliple passages separated by a ";" (semicolon) and/or use your favorite book Bible abbreviations (ie. Matt. 9:23 or Gen 1).

My Notes

Use the "My Notes" app from the app manager to add your thoughts and meditations on the Scripture. Your note will be saved and be synchronized with the relevant scripture passage. You may also create a note in Verse Detail dialog which can be initiated by clicking on a verse number or by selecting Bible text with your cursor. Look for the

Highlights and Underline

You must have an account and be logged into your account in order to enable highlighting. Select text and click a the desired highlight color or underline options from within the Verse Detail view. On a mobile device you may also access these features by tapping on a verse number.

Favorites and Sharing

Similar to highlights you must be logged into your account in order to add Bible verses to your favorites (Sharing, however, can be done without an account). After selecting the relevant Bible text or by clicking/tapping on a verse number, highlights and Sharing can be done from the verse detail view.

Account Preferences and Settings

Account preferences and other settings on your account can be adjusted under My Account . You will also find other helpful documentation and information about the ESV Bible translation and Crossway.
