The Servant of the Lord

49 Listen to me, kO coastlands,

and give attention, you peoples lfrom afar.

mThe Lord called me from the womb,

from the body of my mother he named my name.

Isaiah 53:3 (Listen)

kHe was despised and rejected1 by men;

a man of sorrows,2 and acquainted with3 grief;4

and as one from whom men hide their faces5

he was despised, and lwe esteemed him not.

wI gave my back to those who strike,

and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard;

I hid not my face

from disgrace and spitting.

But the Lord God helps me;

therefore I have not been disgraced;

xtherefore I have set my face like a flint,

and I know that I shall not be put to shame.
