42 But jGod turned away and kgave them over to worship lthe host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets:
m“‘Did you bring to me slain beasts and sacrifices,
nduring the forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
18 And for about bforty years che put up with them in the wilderness.
35 The people of Israel tate the manna forty years, till they came to a habitable land. They ate the manna till uthey came to the border of the land of Canaan.
33 And your children dshall be shepherds in the wilderness eforty years and shall fsuffer for your faithlessness, until the last of your dead bodies lies in the wilderness. 34 gAccording to the number of the days in which you spied out the land, hforty days, a year for each day, you shall bear your iniquity forty years, and you shall know my displeasure.’
10 wFor forty years I loathed that generation
and said, “They are a people who go astray in their heart,
and they have not known xmy ways.”
10 Therefore I was provoked with that generation,
and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart;
they have not known my ways.’
17 And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, kwhose bodies fell in the wilderness?
